Last night, during the Covid-19 Press Conference, Prime Minister Rutte announced that the Netherlands is going into lockdown. The lockdown is set from today until 14 January and impacts many areas of society, but in this letter we will set out how we will follow the government guidelines for Secondary education until Monday 10 January.
The basic premise is that safety is paramount. The regulations state that all schools are closed from Monday 20 December until Sunday 9 January. This means there will be no education provided during this time. However, students of DP2 (our exam class) will be able to follow their lessons online as per their normal timetable, although lessons on Wednesday will stop at 13:00. Wednesday’s team-building day scheduled for DP2 will unfortunately be postponed until further notice, due to the stricter regulations. The government will revisit their decision on 3 January and will then decide whether schools will remain closed and move to online lessons from 10 January. You will understand that our staff need to prepare for this eventuality and this also is why we will not be providing lessons to any other classes during the course of this coming week. If you need to collect anything from your locker, please contact the reception to make an appointment for Monday/Tuesday of this week.
We will be providing emergency care for vulnerable children and those whose parents are considered critical workers. If you fall into this category (check here), we ask you to reply to this email today, mentioning the days you require care. Please note that there will be no lessons for these students, but they will be supervised in either the library or a classroom during their regular timetable times.
We ask for your continued support and flexibility and ask you to join us in respecting and following the Dutch government rules and regulations to continue to fight the spread of Covid. The winter break comes at a good time for many of us, and we understand that travelling to visit family is something we have been looking forward to for some time. Please check the regulations for travel and quarantine upon return to the Netherlands as this has changed in the light of yesterday’s press conference.
We will be back in touch at the beginning of January, once the new government guidelines have been published. Our planned staff development day on 10 January is still going ahead, and the first lesson day will be Tuesday 11 January.
On behalf of the whole team, we would like to wish you all a restful and healthy break, and all the best for 2022.
