Our Primary School consists of 7 year groups: Reception Class (from the age of 4) through to Year 6 (ages 10-11). We endeavour to limit the class sizes to a maximum of 24. Each year group is led by a Class Teacher who is supported by the ISB’s team of Primary Teaching Assistants to ensure that we are able to maximise the amount of individual attention given to our pupils.
The curriculum comprises the various disciplines taught to our pupils, such as the key subject areas of literacy and numeracy, and naturally includes wider areas of learning to equip our pupils with the academic and socio-emotional skills required to promote their personal growth and development.
All the children have a fitness activity, phonics and handwriting, literacy and a numeracy lesson every day. Our children are taught geography, science, history, information communication technology, design technology and art through the International Primary Curriculum. All the children have two physical education lessons per week and at least one weekly music lesson.
At the beginning of each term, parents receive a detailed overview of the areas which will be covered by the curriculum and the social and emotional aspects of their child’s learning.
Our teachers plan a range of differentiated, stimulating and exciting activities to cater for the needs of each child in their class, including for those children for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL), those who require learning support, and those who are working at a higher Our whole primary school is involved in the successful Power of Reading project, designed to encourage children to read for pleasure. The project has been going for over 10 years and results have shown so many positive effects on both teachers and children, such as improving attitudes to reading, engaging reluctant readers and drastically improving all literacy skills, including speaking and writing.
