ISB Awarded the Prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag
04 November 2025
Back in June earlier this year, we were awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag, a globally recognised symbol of excellence in environmental education and sustainable practice.
In early November, our ISB community came together—students, staff, and families alike—to celebrate this momentous milestone in our sustainability journey. The celebration was made even more special by the sea of green in the crowd, representing our shared commitment to caring for our planet.
During the ceremony, inspiring speeches were given by Head of School Vibeke Asbjørnsen, Breda City Council Alderman for Education Arjen van Drunen, and Eco Team Chair Aanya, each reflecting on ISB’s dedication to sustainability and the collective effort that led to this achievement.

This recognition marks not the end of our journey, but the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The Green Flag is the result of years of hard work, reflection, and collaboration across all parts of our school—PYP, MYP, and DP. Students have been at the heart of this process from the very beginning, contributing their creativity, energy, and passion for making positive change.

Special thanks go to Ms. van Zundert, whose guidance and commitment have been central to the Eco-Schools process, and to all staff who support the Eco Team and weave sustainability into everyday learning.

As part of the ceremony, our community reaffirmed the ISB Eco Code:
“Here at ISB we value sustainability, we take responsibility for our environment and our resources, and we care for the future of the world by taking action here.”
The Green Flag is more than an award—it’s a reminder of what we can achieve together when we lead with purpose, care, and collaboration. Congratulations to our entire ISB community for this outstanding accomplishment!
